Italian Serie A side Lecce says it is investigating why Zambian international Lameck Banda has not yet returned to Italy for the start of the club's pre-season preparations.

In a statement released by the club, Lecce confirmed that Banda informed them his return has been delayed by ongoing logistical and bureaucratic challenges.

While acknowledging the explanation, the club says it will now assess the circumstances surrounding the delay. Lecce has also reserved the right to take disciplinary action if it finds that Banda has failed to meet his contractual obligations.

The development comes as the 24-year-old remains an important member of the Italian club, where he is under contract until 30 June 2027.

Banda has been one of Zambia's most recognizable football exports in recent years, making the situation one that many fans back home will be watching closely as Lecce decides its next steps.

Neither Banda nor his representatives have publicly commented beyond the explanation cited by the club regarding the travel-related challenges.
