The opposition’s latest political alliance is already being treated like a major turning point ahead of Zambia’s August 13 general elections.

Presidential aspirant Makebi Zulu says the response from citizens following the merger between Tonse Alliance and PF/Pamodzi Alliance has convinced opposition leaders that Zambians are ready for a change in government.

Speaking during a joint opposition press briefing yesterday, Zulu said the public reaction after the alliance announcement sent a clear message to the opposition camp.

“When we announced that the two alliances were coming together, the overwhelming response from Zambians told us that we have won this election,” he said.

The outspoken lawyer explained that opposition parties had agreed to unite behind one presidential candidate instead of dividing votes through separate campaigns.

According to Zulu, political leaders within the alliance have chosen to put aside personal ambitions in what he described as a bigger mission to remove the UPND from power.

“We are going to stand for one, and one is going to stand for all,” he stated.

The announcement has already sparked debate online, with many people now waiting to see who will eventually emerge as the single candidate to represent the united opposition front.

Zulu also revealed that the alliance will soon unveil the presidential candidate expected to challenge President Hakainde Hichilema in next year’s elections.

The merger between Tonse Alliance and PF/Pamodzi Alliance now adds another major layer to Zambia’s already heated political landscape as campaigns continue gaining momentum across the country.
