The trial of musician Edward Chanda, popularly known as part of the Chanda Na Kay duo, is expected to begin before the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court today.

The artist is facing three charges related to alleged child trafficking and cyber offences. He has denied all the charges brought against him.

According to the State, the first count involves alleged child trafficking for purposes of sexual exploitation. Prosecutors claim the offence was committed on August 3, 2025, in Lusaka and involved a child identified in court documents as WK.

In the second count, Chanda is accused of child grooming under the Cyber Crimes Act. The prosecution alleges that on July 7, 2025, he used a computer system to groom the child with the intention of facilitating or encouraging sexual conduct.

The third count relates to child solicitation. Prosecutors allege that on July 27, 2025, he used a computer system to arrange a meeting with the child with the intent to abuse or engage in sexual activity.

The case has attracted significant public interest due to Chanda’s status as one of Zambia’s most recognised musicians.

As the matter comes before court, attention will now shift to the evidence expected to be presented during the trial.
