A new language learning opportunity has opened up for students at Copperbelt University after the institution launched its Chinese Language Study Programme.
The programme has been introduced under the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, with the university describing it as an investment in preparing graduates for an increasingly interconnected world.
Speaking during the launch, CBU Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs, Professor Paul Chisale, encouraged students to take the opportunity seriously and approach their studies with dedication.
He said proficiency in Chinese could strengthen students’ academic and professional prospects while giving them opportunities to engage beyond Zambia.
Sino Zam Vocational College of Science and Technology Principal, Ms Wang Nan, said the programme would allow students to communicate and work with Chinese people and companies while developing a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and traditions.
She said the initiative would also promote cultural exchange and contribute to strengthening the friendship between Zambia and China.
Student representative Petronella Kaungu welcomed the programme and thanked university management for introducing it.
She said learning Chinese would equip students with valuable language skills while broadening their academic and career opportunities.
The programme adds another pathway for CBU students to develop skills that could be useful in an increasingly connected academic and business environment.
