A tragic road accident near Mulungushi University has claimed the lives of three students and left three others injured, sparking shock across the campus community and beyond.
The accident happened on Sunday between 03:30 and 04:00 hours at Mulungushi Bridge along the Great North Road in Central Province. According to police reports, a Mercedes Benz C200 carrying six students lost control while travelling from south to north before overturning.
The driver, Mukuka Chanda, together with fellow student Felix Luther, died at the scene. The third victim, Mwangula Kabwe, aged 24 and a fourth year student, was also confirmed dead.
Three other passengers survived the crash but sustained injuries. Willard Phiri suffered a deep cut on the right side of his head and body pains. Ashford Soko sustained a cut on the chin, a swollen left eye, and general body pain. Chongo Mutembula suffered injuries to his right eye and chest pains.
All three injured students are currently admitted to Kabwe Central Hospital where they are receiving medical attention. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examinations.
